Stuff You Can Know was founded by Mette Walter Werdelin, a visual effects producer turned scientist, to bridge the gap between science and storytelling. With a career that spans both the film industry and the scientific world, Mette offers a fresh perspective on science communication. Mette’s diverse background includes post-production on several feature films and TV shows, work on the visual effects team for Harry Potter and Narnia, research on pathogenic viruses at Columbia University, and embarking on a PhD in immunology. Her career has spanned cities like London, New York, Rome, Glasgow, and Copenhagen. With 12 years of filmmaking experience and a degree in molecular biology from NYU, Mette believes science should be accessible to everyone, not confined to advanced jargon in subject-specific journals. Inspired by her experiences in science and filmmaking, she founded Stuff You Can Know to simplify complex scientific topics, making them understandable and engaging, with the goal of fostering greater trust and accessibility in science communication.
